“The way some of the Aussies are going about it, it’s just… You kind of feel that you are taking out our best competitor, especially with that kind of presence, it’s like taking a knife to a gunfight really. It’s a little bit unfair.”
That was the view of Proteas star Dale Steyn on his fellow fast bowler Kagiso Rabada following the controversy surrounding David Warner’s incident with Quinton de Kock during the first Test against Australia at Kingsmead in Durban.
In an interview with KFM’s Ryan O’Connor on Monday, Steyn felt that Rabada is being restricted in trying to unsettle the opposition due to disciplinary action taken against him by the International Cricket Council in recent times.
Steyn himself hopes to get back on to the field soon and make a bid to play in the third Test at Newlands, which starts on March 22.
“I’m actually walking to my car right now to have a bowl! I can’t wait. It’s been a long time – shoulder, foot, all that kind of stuff. Watching the cricket yesterday and seeing some of the things that are happening on the field, I just want to get out there so that I can…” Steyn said.

“One other guy that actually gets involved is KG (Rabada) – he really does get stuck in.
“But I think after the last few incidents where he got into trouble – he got a ban and a fine and everything like that – he kind of has the handcuffs around him right now, which is a little unfair.
“Because if you look at the way some of the Aussies are going about it, it’s just… And I’m not standing here and complaining, and I hope I don’t get a fine for saying that.
