Durban — Police are investigating a case of murder after the body of an 18-year-old man was found with stab wounds on Old North Coast Road, in Durban on Wednesday.

According to a Swift Private Security crime report, at about 5.30 am, their Control Centre received reports from community members regarding the discovery of a body on the road.

Their response team was dispatched immediately to the scene.

“Upon arrival, Swift officers observed that the deceased, a man, had sustained visible physical injuries. Broken glass was found near the body, suggesting possible involvement in the incident,” Swift Private Security said.

Residents identified the victim as someone they were familiar with. The victim frequently visited the area and lived in the Greenwood Park area.

“At this stage, the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear,” Swift Private Security said.

The firm said Greenwood Park SAPS was at the scene and has taken over the investigation.

Adding, Swift Private Security said: “Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Greenwood Park SAPS or Swift Private Security at 031 109 4433.”

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police in Greenwood Park opened a murder case after an 18-year-old was stabbed to death and found on Old North Coast Road on Wednesday.

“He was found lying on the road with multiple stab wounds,” Netshiunda said.

He added that the motive of the murder is unknown.

Meanwhile, last month, a man believed to have been beaten to death was found on a pathway in Durban, prompting a murder investigation by police.

The body was found on a pathway between Crow Place and Johanna Road in the Sea Cow Lake area.

At the time, KZN police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed the incident.

She said Greenwood Park police are investigating a case of murder following an incident in which a 39-year-old man was allegedly found on the side of the road at Kenville on October 3. He had multiple injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
