Durban — The eThekwini Municipality has announced that the number of swimming pools that are operational has decreased from 17 to 13.
This was according to Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda who was speaking during a media engagement on Thursday morning.
“We want to inform the public that currently, the city has 13 operational swimming pools to enable residents and visitors to cool down as they enjoy the warm summer weather,” Kaunda said.
“The pools include Rainham, Durban North, Pipeline, Umgababa, Tiger Rocks, uMlazi D, Anstey's, Tesoriere, Westville, Lahee Park, Mariannridge, Chesterville, Kings Park and South Beach pool,” he said.
Kaunda said that the public will be informed of the re-opening of many other pools which are currently undergoing maintenance.
“We also want to remind our residents and visitors that the following beaches are open for swimming because of the improvement of water quality standards: Point Beach, uShaka, Addington, South Beach, Wedge, North Beach, Bay of Plenty, Battery Beach, Country Club, Brighton Beach, Reunion beach, Pipeline Beach, Toti Main, Warner and Umgababa beaches,” Kaunda said.
He added that Westbrook, Bronze, Laguna, Thekwini, uMhlanga, uMdloti, Winkelspruit and Anstey's beaches remain closed until further notice.
