Nine-year-old Kairo Forbes, daughter of South African music icons DJ Zinhle and the late rapper AKA, is determined to carve out a career for herself in the modelling world.

Sharing her ambitions with her millions of followers on Instagram, Kairo posted a heartfelt video of herself walking the runway.

"In 2025 chase your dreams, no matter your age!" she wrote.

"I’m 9, and I’m already working toward one of my biggest dreams; becoming a top runway model! Every pose, every step, and every moment brings me closer to the dream I see in my heart."

Her message was clear: age is no barrier to success. Kairo encouraged her followers to follow their own dreams, no matter how big or small.

"It doesn’t matter how young you are; if you can dream it, you can do it! Believe in yourself, work hard, and never stop shining your unique light."

The young influencer’s journey to the runway is already taking shape.

In November 2023, Kairo made her debut on the runway at the launch of a new summer fashion collection for Ackermans.

Proudly sharing her experience, she posted on Instagram: “This is summer! My first time walking in an actual fashion show! What made it even more special was that I did it with my Mama at @ackermans_za Spring Summer launch!!!.”

Her rise to fame has been rapid. Last year, Kairo won the title of Favourite African Kidfluencer at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

During her acceptance speech, she shared her ambitions: “I want to be a model one day. I love fashion and make-up a lot, so I hope I become one.”

In addition to her modelling pursuits, Kairo recently starred in Ackermans’ back-to-school campaign alongside actor Khumo from "Scandal".

However, the campaign sparked controversy, with critics arguing that the retailer should feature less privileged children, as Kairo and Khumo come from affluent backgrounds.

But there was a strong outpouring of support for the young influencer.

Musician Lady Du came to Kairo’s defence, stating: “This child has been through enough already! She lost her father, she’s trying so hard to cope. If Ackermans wants to choose Kairo, who are we to want them to choose someone else? Leave the kids alone!”
