The University of Venda issued a statement expressing gratitude to multi-award-winning musician Makhadzi for her generous act of kindness in providing financial assistance to 20 South African students struggling to pay their registration fees for 2025.
On January 29, Makhadzi announced her intention to offer this support on her social media platforms.
The university stated that Makhadzi paid the registration fees on January 31 when the first-year student orientation commenced.
“The University of Venda (UNIVEN) became one of the lucky beneficiaries when 10 students were selected to have their registration fees fully paid, following Makhadzi’s call for assistance. This generous act took place on January 31, during the Official Opening of first-year students orientation at the UNIVEN Auditorium,” they revealed.
The university also took to social media to thank the Limpopo sensation for her selfless act and fulfilling her promise.
“Words cannot express the gratitude that the University of Venda feels towards Queen Makhadzi for her generous act of kindness towards our students, particularly in assisting with their registration fees,” they captioned the post.
The university further added that Makhadzi’s commitment to giving back to the community is an inspiration and she is a weaving tapestry of hope and impactful change.
Even though Makhadzi impacted lives in a positive way, social media users criticised her when she revealed the list of the students she was going to help.
Social media users claimed that she chose a majority of students from the university of Venda because she is also Venda.
However, she continued her initiative and did not address the negative comments that claimed that she was discriminating against other students.
The 28-year-old “Matorokisi” hitmaker shared on social media that she will continue with this gesture and finish off paying universities for the selected students' registration fees.
“Last week I spent my week being a good citizen by helping students with their registration at UNIVEN… The work continues as I’ll be paying other universities today.” she captioned her post.
