Sting is headed to South Africa and Cape Town fans are in for something special.
The legendary musician will perform twice at the Grand Arena, GrandWest, on Tuesday, March 25, and Wednesday, March 26. Before that, he’ll make a stop in Pretoria at the SunBet Arena on Saturday, March 22.
The 17-time Grammy Award-winning artist, whose real name is Gordon Matthew Sumner, will be joined on stage by virtuoso guitarist and long-time collaborator, Dominic Miller, as well as dynamic drummer Chris Maas, who previously worked with Mumford & Sons and Maggie Rogers.
His South African visit is part of the “Sting 3.0" tour, presented by Cherrytree Music Company and Big Concerts, powered by Hot 102.7 FM and in association with KFM 94.5.
They also performed in several cities in the US as well as in Canada last year.
The 72-year-old is renowned for his distinctive blend of rock, jazz, classical and reggae influences which has made him one of the most versatile and celebrated musicians of his generation. As the frontman of the legendary band The Police, he helped redefine the sound of late 70s and early 80s rock with their fusion of punk, reggae and pop.
Meanwhile, Sting, together with Miller and Maas, is set to bring fresh energy to his songs, offering a raw and intimate take on both his solo hits and classics from The Police.
Expect to hear timeless favourites like "Every Breath You Take", "Englishman in New York" and "Fields of Gold", alongside the high-energy anthems "Roxanne" and "Message in a Bottle".
Fans will also get a taste of his latest work, including "I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)", which was inspired by the tour itself.
While Sting’s impact is global, South African fans have always embraced his music. Tracks like "Every Breath You Take" have remained radio staples for decades and his streaming numbers in the country continue to show steady love for his catalogue.
His influence spans generations, making these shows a must-see for both long-time followers and newcomers who enjoy a bit of old school.
With a career spanning more than 40 years, and 100 million album sales, Sting is an artist who knows how to deliver. This is a rare chance to experience his music in a stripped-down, intimate setting, one that promises to be both nostalgic and refreshingly new.
