Cardi B knows how to grab attention but her latest move left fans raising their eyebrows.

The chart-topping rapper, known for her extravagant taste in Hermès, Chanel and the controversial brand, Balenciaga, took a surprising turn by partnering with fast-fashion giant, Shein.

In a video shared on Instagram on December 3, Cardi B showed off a collection of affordable winter jackets, all priced under $200 (R3 605), leaving some of her fans with mixed feelings.

In the clip, the “Money Moves” rapper served up sass and style, posing in a grey puffy coat while encouraging fans to “invest in a good coat” instead of rocking spring jackets in the winter.

She strutted downstairs in a sleek brown leather coat and topped off her fashion parade with a tan fur-hooded jacket, reminiscing about her mom keeping her warm on a budget.

To seal the deal, she promoted Shein’s ongoing 90% sale and a personal discount code, “BFCARDI,” for an extra 15% off.

While her throwback to budget-conscious shopping was an attempt to connect with fans, it received mixed reactions. Some criticised the rapper for endorsing a brand known for its affordability, saying it clashed with her luxurious lifestyle.

Comments like “Girl, you wear Hermès and Chanel, not Shein” flooded social media, with some even labelling the move as “embarrassing”.

But if anyone knows how to handle critics, it’s Cardi B. Wasting no time, she clapped back in true Cardi B fashion.

Taking to her platform, the rapper reminded everyone about her financial clout, boasting about spending $3 million (R54,438,753) a month and revealing that she turned down a $65 million tour offer. She also shared receipts — literally — in the form of text messages to silence doubters.

Fans were still not buying it and drew attention to something else, her album that has taken years to drop.

@ViolinzViolinz commented: “You selfish for not giving us the album that we’ve patiently waited almost 7 years for you NEED to stop worrying about trolls and worry about your fans cuz it’s getting embarrassing”

@mysteriousfein_also commented: “You declined the offer cos you couldn’t sell them seats boo … we all know what it is. You keep saying next year this and that. You f*****d up every year. It’s year 8 without an album and tour. Your peers passed you already”

While @mellooodyk wrote: “There was no need to post this. All of this could be planned but if you keep holding out on your fans, it can and will definitely be cancelled. Ppl want to hear your music but you got to stop the BS.”
