Just a few months behind the new 308 hatch, Peugeot is expanding its medium-car range with a new silhouette. Like the hatch, the new Peugeot 308 SW has been completely redesigned to create a classic two-box station wagon, 4.58 metres long and only 1.47 metres high, for versatile interior volume without the boxiness, says Peugeot, of an MPV.
It's 610 litre luggage bay is quoted as the biggest in class but, more importantly, it also has a minimum of protrusions to make it a practical and clutter-free space. Versatility is achieved with maximum simplicity (you can fold the seats with a single action from behind) and effectiveness: when they're folded the floor is perfectly flat.
EFFICIENT MODULAR PLATFORM
Like the hatchback, the new Peugeot 308 SW is built on the 'Efficient Modular Platform' (EMP2), saving weight (it's 140kg lighter than its predecessor) and enhancing drivability, as does its i-Cockpit, cabin layout, designed to provide driver and passengers with a 'clean and clear' environment.
The 308 SW will have its world premiere at the Geneva motor show in March and will go on sale across Europe in the second quarter of 2014. It'll be available at launch with a range of Euro 6-compliant petrol and diesel engines, including a BlueHDI turbodiesel rated at only 85g/km of CO2,
No decision on whether the 308 SW will be released in South Africa will be made until after the new 308 hatch has been launched in 2015.
