Peugeot is overhauling its entire C-segment range and fans of the French brand will get to see the full line-up at the Frankfurt Motor Show early next month.
After releasing the first pictures earlier this year, Peugeot has now parted with more pictures and additional details on its second-generation 308.
While this hatch rides on a brand new modular platform, the facelifted 3008 and 5008 continue with their existing architecture but freshen things up with a new look.
PEUGEOT 308
Peugeot has followed its arch-rival, the VW Golf, in taking a cautious design route with its new 308. In fact the most exciting design feature is the first-in-class fitment of full-LED headlights that are standard on high-spec models.
However, as is the case with the VW, the new 308 is built on an all-new modular platform - called Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP2) in the French car's case. 140kg lighter than its predecessor and measuring just 4.25 metres in length, Peugeot claims that is new hatch is the lightest and most compact car in its segment.
Peugeot achieved the size reduction by shortening the overhangs, which means that interior space is, allegedly, still very generous.
The 308 follows its smaller 208 sibling in embracing Peugeot's 'i-Cockpit' design philosophy, which means you get a small steering wheel (for an agile feel) and elevated instrument panel (so you'll be able to read over said steering wheel).
The car's infotainment functions will be operated though a 9.7-inch touchscreen and there are plenty of advanced driving aids on offer, including Emergency Collision Alert System and - for when that doesn't get the message across - Emergency Collision Braking System. Blind Spot Monitoring and Dynamic Cruise Control are also offered.
Depending on the country in question, Peugeot will offer a selection of five petrol and turbodiesel engines, said to offer class-leading fuel economy.
The highlight of the range, as far as Peugeot is concerned, is the 69kW 1.6-litre HDi, which emits just 93g/km of CO2. The BlueHDi models take the green game even further, with emissions of just 82g/km.
There will also be a frugal petrol engine option - the 1.2-litre three-cylinder e-THP basically being a turbocharged version of the engine found in the 208. No power figures have been disclosed as yet, but expect it to at least match your average normally aspirated 1.6-litre.
The hot hatch brigade can also look forward to a 199kW performance version of the 308, as hinted at by the 308 R Concept that was revealed on Monday.
Last we heard the new 308 was due to hit South African shores around the third quarter of 2014.
PEUGEOT 3008
This Peugeot always aimed to blur the boundaries between MPV and crossover and it's been a successful gamble, with sales targets having been exceeded by 50 percent.
Both the 3008 and 3008 Hybrid4 models have just been given a nip and tuck to keep them ticking over for a few more years.
At the front, designers have opted for a neater look that emulates the new 308, while the rear end gains new taillights with a striking LED light arrangement.
Inside there's a retractable screen for navigation and rear-view camera and the head-up display now offers more functions.
As before, Peugeot offers a cutting-edge all-wheel drive diesel-electric hybrid model in Europe, with a system output of 147kW and combined fuel consumption of 3.4 litres per 100km. The regular range of petrol, turbopetrol and turbodiesel engines soldiers on, offering outputs of between 86kW and 122kW.
PEUGEOT 5008
While sharing an interior and other bits and bobs with the 3008, the 5008 is a stretched seven-seat MPV that competes with the Toyota Verso and VW Touran.
Like its sibling, the MPV gains a fresh front-end design that conforms to the new family look.
Snazzier models can be equipped with a middle-row multimedia system comprising two 7-inch colour screens (fitted to the back of the front head rests), a connection console compatible with any portable audio/video equipment and two Bluetooth wireless headphones.
The engine range, for the European market, is as per the 3008.
