Chery has given the world a sneak peek at its new “Chery Super Hybrid” (CSH) system that will underpin a new range of new energy vehicles.

The Chinese car giant has also confirmed that it will introduce 19 new hybrid models globally in 2025, and these will consist of conventional hybrid as well as plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and range-extender hybrid (REEV) models.

The new hybrid system will feature in the new Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 models, all of which will be revealed at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2025 show later in April.

All three of these vehicles are expected to land in South Africa in plug-in hybrid form later this year.

The new-generation CSH hybrid system boasts a thermal efficiency factor of 46.5%, which Chery says is unprecedented in the market. It also boasts a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), which delivers 98.5% transmission efficiency.

The system is paired with either a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre TGDI turbopetrol engine, with the latter producing up to 280kW.

Chery says the goal with the new technology is to provide diverse global markets with superior technological solutions that are eco-friendly, affordable and reliable.

“After over 20 years of dedicated R&D and strategic planning, Chery has established itself as a global leader in hybrid development, with its CSH system ushering in the next generation of new-energy vehicles,” Chery said.

More details about the new hybrid system will be revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show next week.
