Police in the Apel policing area in Limpopo are investigating the murder of a 50-year-old woman who was found dead in her home in Ka Petsa village on Saturday, November 30. The incident is believed to be linked to a domestic dispute.
According to reports, the deceased was alone in her house on the day of the incident while her husband was away working casual jobs. He reportedly returned home at approximately 9pm and found all doors locked.
"Apparently he then decided to open since he was in possession of spare key and found food already prepared for him and he enjoyed his dinner and went to sleep until the following day," said police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The woman’s body was discovered the following day inside her house. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may have been killed the previous night.
Further information revealed that the husband and the victim lived on the same property, but in separate houses.
Police have not made any arrests.
"Police believe that a known man, who is staying within the same vicinity and used to frequent the place, might assist the police the investigation and in resolving the case," said Ledwaba.
This incident follows a recent spate of domestic violence cases in the Sekhukhune District, including the brutal murder of a 42-year-old woman in the Ntoane area. In that case, the suspect, her husband, died by suicide shortly after the attack.
Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the latest murder and urged the community to take a stronger stand against gender-based violence.
Police investigations are ongoing.
