A Chatsworth man was shot and killed, while another man and a teenager were injured during an alleged road rage drive-by shooting along Higginson Highway this morning.
The three men, who were returning home from work, were travelling in a white minibus.
Their vehicle and a white double cab collided.
A source from the scene said: “It seems like the minibus failed to stop after the minor collision and the occupants of the double cab opened fire on them. After the minibus veered off the road, an unknown number of men from the double cab exited their vehicle and opened fire on the minibus. It seems like a case of road rage. The occupants of the double cab broke the windows of the minibus with a panga. They then shot at them again through the broken windows and fled the scene."
The driver of the white minibus, believed to be in his 30s, sustained fatal gunshot injuries to his arms and chest.
An 18-year-old passenger was shot on his legs, while a third occupant in his 30s was shot on his arm.
It is alleged the men, who work for a newspaper company in Pinetown, had finished their night shift and were returning home to Croftdene when the incident happened.
Claude Subramodey, from Amawele Emergency Services, treated the men at the scene.
He said the collision happened on the Moorton off-ramp.
“When the vehicle veered off the road, the men in the double cab ambushed the men in the minibus and opened fire at the vehicle. Sadly, there was nothing we could do for the driver of the minibus. He was declared dead on the scene. The other two occupants were rushed to hospital as they were in a critical condition,” said Subramodey.
This is a developing story.
