Johannesburg - Social Development Minister Susan Shabangu has promised that in the next two months her depatment will no longer have cash payments for social grants beneficiaries.
The minister also said they will completely cut ties with Cash Paymaster Services by the end of September as determined by the Constitutional Court.
Shabangu, who was answering questions in the National Council of Provinces on Tuesday, said out of 2.5 million beneficiaries who received cash payments only 600 000 were left.
She said by end of September there will be no cash payments for social grant beneficiaries as they move to the South African Post Office.
Shabangu admitted that there have been problems with the payment of social grants to some of the beneficiaries.
However, she has promised that this has been addressed.
“We are in court because of the 2.5 million people on cash payment. We are left with 600 000 people,” said Shabangu.
However, it is their intention that when they submit their final report in the Constitutional Court at the end of September, they would have completed the migration from CPS to Sapo.
