While rumours swirl over the potential transfer of misfiring Kaizer Chiefs striker Christian Saile to Chippa United, AmaKhosi legend Itumeleng Khune has backed the potential move.

Saile arrived at Chiefs in January 2023, but this season has failed to deliver the goods under new coach Nasreddine Nabi.

This season, the 25-year-old has played just six matches for Chiefs and has yet to write his name down on the scoresheet.

The DR Congo national therefore has found his name linked with a move away from the Soweto Giants to the Eastern Cape outfit.

"Saile's strength is to run at defenders, but he has not shown that since coach Nasreddine Nabi took over," said Khune on SABC's SoccerZone.

"Remember when he came, he used to bang in goals. He used to take on defenders, creating opportunities coming from the right-hand side as a left-footed player.

"But I think if Chippa United eventually sign him, they will make use of him, but with Kaizer Chiefs, I doubt.”

Chiefs find themselves up to sixth on the Betway Premiership log after 13 matches, following two wins in their last four games.

Last term, Chiefs finished well down the standings in 10th place. This season, Chiefs began the league with two wins in a row as Nabi was immediately seen as something of a messiah.

Since then though, it’s been more of a struggle but to their credit Chiefs have been able to slowly claim a grip on a top-eight place on the log.

Though Chiefs have managed 18 points from 13 games, they are nine points off Orlando Pirates and 12 behind table-toppers Mamelodi Sundowns. In fact, both Pirates and Sundowns have played just 11 matches.
