Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has made the odd decision to add another player, Aubrey Modiba, to the squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Seychelles.
Baxter announced a 24-man squad on Monday morning, but it seems that Modiba’s cracking free kick for SuperSport United against Polokwane City on Tuesday night may have caught the coach’s eye.
The Matsatsantsa a Pitori left winger has been part of Baxter’s plans before, but was left out of the squad for the double dose of qualifiers against Seychelles on October 13 at FNB Stadium and October 16 on the Indian Ocean island.
The SA Football Association announced Modiba’s call-up on their website on Wednesday, stating “Modiba was one of the young players Baxter took to Zambia for the Four Nations tournament, and was one of the key performers in this year’s Cosafa Senior Men’s National Team tournament that took place in Polokwane”.
He faces a tough task to break into the starting side, though, with the likes of Vincent Pule, Dean Furman, Hlompho Kekana, Sibusiso Vilakazi and Kamohelo Mokotjo in the running.
Bafana will get together on Sunday in Johannesburg.
