CAPE TOWN – Caster Semenya has just finished off yet another sensational season of running with a gold medal at the IAAF Continental Cup.
She claimed the 800m title for Team Africa to go with the silver medal in the 400m, where she set a new South African record of 49.62.
And on Monday, Semenya took to social media to post a Nike commercial featuring her and celebrating the 30th anniversary of their famous slogan ‘Just Do It’.
The promotion has gained global recognition due to the presence of controversial NFL star Colin Kaepernick being the face of the campaign.
Other global sports icons such as Serena Williams and LeBron James feature in the Kaepernick ad last week, which once again drew the ire of US President Donald Trump, who tweeted: “What were Nike thinking?”
Tiger Woods called the Kaepernick ad “a beautiful spot”.
Now Semenya, who is also sponsored by the sportswear giants, has her own ‘Just Do It’ ad.
The 27-year-old Semenya, who has long fought off critics who question her gender with sustained success on the track, says in the inspirational ad: “Will it be easier for you if I wasn’t so fast? Will it be simpler if I stop winning? Would you be more comfortable if I was less proud?
“Would you prefer if I hadn’t worked so hard? Or just didn’t love it? Or stopped at my first steps?
“That’s too bad, because I was born to do this…”
