Legendary Afrikaans singer, director and songwriter, Anton Goosen, who recently released his come-back album, “Sirkels!”, has dropped a compelling new music video for the album’s hit single, “Gigi”.

“Gigi” continues on the success of Goosen’s comeback single, “Bly By My, (My Lief)”, his well-received rendition of an Antjie Krog poem which was released in May.

According to Goosen, the music video tells the story of a pole dancer from Velddrif on the Western Cape who now lives in Johannesburg, and must dance in a club to earn her living.

“Because she is such a wonderful woman, she catches the eye of her ‘prince’ Jerman, who rescues her from her circumstances for a while.

“But as time goes on, she sees him less and less where they live together on the top floor of the Ponte Tower, a high round building near Hillbrow,” shared Goosen.

The “father of Afrikaans rock”, as he is fondly referred to as by fans, said the single and it’s accompanying music video tie in with the theme of the album, which is about circles.

“Gigi spinning around the pole, eagles circling, water ripples, and it is exactly there where the eagle comes into play.

“I want to leave it open for interpretation.”

Popular singers, Lise Swart and Neil Sandilands and leading guitarists, Schalk Joubert and Illimar Neitz also feature in the video.

Niel van Deventer produces and directs on the video while Marta Vorontsova does the animation.

The award-winning Afrikaans singer, who has been serving fans music since the 1970s has composed music for numerous films, produced more than 20 albums, and received numerous awards over the course of his decades-long career.
