This festive season, LIFT, the innovative South African airline, has elevated the airborne experience for its passengers by introducing a delightful twist: in-flight comedy.
On two special flights — the 1pm from Cape Town to Johannesburg and the 4pm return journey — travellers were treated to the comedic genius of South African comic Alan Committie.
Charlene Meltz, LIFT’s chief marketing officer, articulated the airline’s intent: “Alan is well known and loved by South Africans, and as a 2023 Comics Choice Awards HALL OF FAME recipient, we thought our passengers would appreciate a few laughs as we head into the festive season.”
Committie, known for his record-breaking eight-year run in the Broadway hit, “Defending the Caveman”, brings not only humour but also a sense of camaraderie among passengers.
With 963 performances spread across South Africa, partnering with him was an obvious choice for the airline.
“At LIFT we believe the sky isn’t the limit. We simply love bringing amazing surprises to our passengers and bringing exciting collaborations to life,” Meltz elaborated.
Since its launch, the airline has consistently shown a commitment to uplifting South African talent and business through strategic partnerships with local brands and artists.
This year alone, the airline has collaborated with the cast of “MAMMA MIA!” to create an entertaining onboard promo video, celebrated author Jo Watson for a unique book launch at 36 000 feet, and Grumpy Snacks to enhance the in-flight snacking experience.
Recently, they unveiled a vibrant co-branded aircraft with Checkers Sixty60, proudly displaying “Sixty60” on the sides and “Checkers” on its belly, further underscoring its dedication to local collaboration.
“We love that we can collaborate with some of our country’s best local brands, artists, musicians, and comedians. It goes hand in hand with our goal of creating an elevated travel experience for our passengers and ensuring they disembark having had a great flight,” said Meltz, showcasing the airline’s commitment to fostering local talent.
The airline was also recently recognised as the ‘Best Low-Cost Airline in Africa’ at the prestigious 2024 World Airline Awards presented by Skytrax.
