Bethlehem - A 22-year-old Free State man has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment after he orally raped another man, provincial police said on Friday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said that on March 29 this year, the victim from Bohlokong was “on his way home from a tavern when he was grabbed by the accused, Motlalepule Johannes Lekhelebane, also from Bohlokong, who forced him to his house where he raped him orally”.

The victim opened a case and he was arrested the same day.

After investigation by the Bethlehem Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit, Lekhelebane appeared in the Bethlehem Regional Court last week where he was sentenced to an effective 10 years imprisonment.

Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe said: “This is an indication that crime has no boundaries and is punishable to anyone who wronged the law abiding citizens of this country, especially to gender based violence.

“The sentence came at the right time when all the stations in Free State were continuing with awareness on 16 Days of Activism of No crimes against women and children. I want to thank the police members, irrespective of their ranks, who were directly and indirectly involved in the arrest and investigation of crime for justice to be served.”
