Johannesburg – Three people, including two children, have been declared dead at the scene of an accident on the N3 in Harrismith in the Free State, paramedics said on Friday.
The busy road was closed on Friday morning by authorities after a truck and a car crashed and caught alight.
When paramedics arrived on scene, they found that both the truck and vehicle had burst into flames.
Reports from the scene indicate that the truck driver managed to jump out of the truck before it burst into flames. Sadly, an adult and two children that were trapped inside the vehicle burnt to death, a Netcare 911 spokesperson said.
The road is still closed and motorists have been advised to use alternative routes.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
