Police divers have found the body of a Bethlehem girl who drowned in the Liebenbergsvlei River near Bohlokong, police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Majang Mosupa said the body of 17-year-old Sheila Jordaan from Bohlokong was found at 2.45pm on Tuesday.
She apparently drowned around 9.30am on Sunday.
On Sunday, Jordaan told her father she was off to attend a church service. She took her mother's cell phone with her.
An eye witness told police he saw a girl walking towards the river and he thought she was going swimming.
The man later realised the young girl was drowning and he a co-worker rushed to try and rescue her. They phoned the girl's father and police, using her mother's cell phone.
Police divers from Welkom were deployed to search for the missing girl. -
