Bloemfontein - Free State police have called on the public to assist in finding a man wanted in connection with the rape and murder of a 40-year-old woman whose body was found under a bed in a Bloemfontein guesthouse recently.
The man is believed to have been the last person in contact with Elmarie Van Zyl, whose decomposed body was found stuck under a bed in a guesthouse on McHardy Street in Brandwag, on Wednesday March 11.
“Anyone with information that can lead to the identification of this witness should please contact the police,” said Colonel M.S. Makhele on Friday.
Police in Bloemfontein released a photo of the man, known only as “Revon”, who they suspect is either from Cape Town or Kimberly.
The suspect was seen at the guesthouse where Van Zyl’s body was found and later seen hitchhiking on the N1 in the direction of Kimberly and Cape Town.
Van Zyl was found by a guesthouse cleaner after a “bad smell” emanated from the room she had been staying in. The naked body had been tucked between the base and the mattress and showed signs of strangulation.
Van Zyl was last seen alive on the evening of March 7, before checking into the guesthouse and was in the company of an unknown man and woman.
Anyone with information leading to the identification of the suspect is urged to contact the D/Warrant Officer Khaile Mathibela on 083 725 7997 or on the Park Road SAPS on 051 5076000.
