Bloemfontein - Alert police in the Free State have arrested two Lesotho nationals who tried to cross over into South Africa with a large stash of dagga hidden in the underside of their vehicle.
Free State provincial police said on Thursday that the suspects were arrested at the Peka port of entry as they were about to cross the border from Lesotho into South Africa.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thandi Mbambo said: “The suspects who were driving a blue Ford Courier were stopped and the vehicle searched. During the search, the police found 80 small bags of dagga wrapped in black plastic and fastened under the chassis with a binding wire. The dagga weighed about 73,8 kg to the street value of R103,320.
The suspects, aged 24 and 28, were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga and are due to appear in the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
