Welkom - A woman appeared in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Monday for allegedly assaulting the 10-month-old boy she was looking after, Free State police said.
On Wednesday, the woman's employer arrived home from work to find her child crying while the childminder tried to feed him, Captain Stephen Thakeng said.
The child's face turned green and the mother took him to the doctor because she feared he was having an allergic reaction. The doctor found the child had been beaten and a case of assault and child abuse was opened. When the child's mother returned home, the childminder had disappeared.
The 29-year-old woman was arrested on Friday and appeared in court on Monday. Her case was postponed until next Monday for a bail application. - Sapa
