Police Constable Elliot Khaka was found guilty of murder on Monday and sentenced to 12-years imprisonment by the Parys High Court, the Independent Complaints Directorate said.
“Khaka, 31, was stationed at SAPS Sasolburg in the Free State when he shot and killed a 20-year-old male, Sombane Lungile, at a local tavern in April,” national spokesperson Moses Dlamini said.
“It is alleged that the deceased had attempted to steal a car belonging to another Constable who was with the accused. Constable Khaka drew his pistol and shot the deceased twice in the chest and head and left.
“He later returned and again shot the deceased again in the chest and head.”
The ICD took over the matter for investigation shortly after.
Khaki was then arrested appeared in court on a charge of murder. -
