Bloemfontein - Free State farmer Andre van Greunen, who was attacked and shot on his farm near Reitz earlier this month, has died in hospital, Free State police said on Monday.
“Mr Andre van Greunen passed away on Friday, 25 July 2014, in the Dihlabeng Hospital,” said Sergeant Mmako Mophiring.
Police had arrested another man in connection with the farm attack in Petsana near Reitz.
Mophiring said the man was expected to appear before the Reitz Magistrate's Court on August 5, to face charges of armed robbery and murder.
Police were still looking for one other man.
The matter relates to an attack by three men on Van Greunen, 47, on the farm Danielsrus around 3pm on July 6.
The men started to shoot at the farmer and he returned their fire.
Van Greunen was wounded in the stomach and right elbow. He managed to shoot one of the three attackers in the upper thigh.
The police and ambulance were summoned to the scene to assist the injured but one attacker, Emmanuel Sibiya, died while paramedics were attending to him.
