Most conflict-of-interest cases involving public servants in the Free State fall outside senior management level, premier Ace Magashule said on Thursday.
“Public servants outside the senior management service have no disclosure obligations to meet,” Magashule said in his state of the province address in Bloemfontein.
There was a need for the department of public service and administration to have the regulatory framework review so the conflict of interests of public servants below the level of director could be managed.
Magashule said the Free State had a compliance rate of 95 percent for the submission of financial disclosure forms by its senior management to the Public Service Commission by September 2011.
He said all instances of identified conflict of interests reported by the Auditor General would be investigated and the appropriate action taken by the relevant provincial department.
A report on such action would be filed with the provincial treasury, the office of the premier and the AG.
The premier also said officials responsible for irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure would face disciplinary action. - Sapa
