Durban - Inclement weather and strong winds may affect motorists on the N3 from Thursday night to the weekend, the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) said.
“There is a strong possibility of snowfalls inland this weekend in the Southern Free State, KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg, Midlands and many parts of Lesotho,” spokeswoman (SUBS: CORRECT) Andy Visser said in a statement.
She said weather and strong winds were expected along Van Reenen's Pass near Harrismith, and in the Estcourt and Ladysmith regions.
“The likelihood of ice formation on the road surface is a risk for any vehicle travelling through the area. Speed reduction, total driver concentration, and carefully executed vehicle direction changes are of crucial importance,” Visser said.
She said sections of the route may be closed to traffic should conditions be deemed unsafe.
Motorists were warned to pack extra blankets, food and refreshments in the event they were caught in a lengthy road closure.
The N3TC is the concessionaire responsible for the N3 between Heidelberg in Gauteng and Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal.
