Sasolburg, Free State - World-renowned photographer Joao Silva, who lost both his legs in a landmine explosion in Afghanistan, was back at work this week, covering the protests in Sasolburg in the Free State, it was reported on Friday.
The Times newspaper reported that he was covering the assignment for The New York Times.
The South African daily had a picture of Silva walking around on his prosthetic legs at the protest, in which four people dead and several were injured.
Silva, 46, a member of the Bang Bang Club, lost his legs while covering conflict in Afghanistan in 2010.
Next month, he would undergo abdominal surgery to repair the wall of his stomach, which was hurt in the blast.
“It will set me back six months, but I will come back. I am good, strong and mobile. I will come back even stronger,” he told The Times. - Sapa
