Free State - The man who was burnt to death when the vehicle he was driving collided with a truck on the N1 in the Free State on Tuesday, has been identified, provincial police have confirmed.
“The man who died about 5km out of Ventersburg (on Tuesday) has been identified as 24-year-old William Du Plessis from Upington in the Northern Cape. His next-of-kin has been informed of his death,” police spokesperson Sergeant Mamello Mokhuoane said.
It is alleged that the deceased was an employee of the Imperial Group in Edenvale and was delivering a vehicle in Kroonstad when he got lost on the way.
“The deceased was driving a Hyundai I10 sedan when he allegedly made a U-turn on the road and was hit by an oncoming truck headed in the Windburg direction,” Mokhuoane said.
“It is alleged that the truck could not stop and pulled the sedan a few metres before it came to a standstill. The sedan ended up in flames with the driver still in the vehicle. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries.”
Mokhuoane said Ventersburg police managed to trace the vehicle as belonging to the Imperial Group through the registration number.
