Bloemfontein – A Free State man is expected to appear in the Smithfield Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly bludgeoning his girlfriend to death with an iron rod and a wooden pole.
Police spokesman Sergeant Yanga Ngcukana said the murder happened on Monday.
“Police were summoned by an anonymous person due to an incident of family violence on the farm. On arrival at the scene police found the body of the woman with her two-year-old son still with her. The deceased’s face had an open wound and was swollen,” Ngcukana said.
The 28-year-old man, whose pants and shoes had bloodstains on them, was apprehended a few minutes later while on his way to his home, said Ngcukana.
“The iron rod, wooden pole and the clothes of the deceased and those of the suspect were confiscated for further investigation. Their child was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure.”
