Free State police arrested four people driving around in the stolen vehicle of a Gauteng murder victim, police said on Wednesday.
Captain Stephen Thakeng said a vehicle tracking company called police about a suspected stolen vehicle in Kutloanong, Odendaalsrus.
Police went to investigate and the vehicle was spotted but the driver sped off when he saw the police.
It was followed to the central business district in Odendaalsrus where it was stopped. Four people were in the vehicle, two men and two women.
Thakeng said that when police verified the vehicle's details, a silver Audi A3 1.8 Turbo with Gauteng registration numbers, it was found that the Cullinan owner of the vehicle had been murdered during a robbery.
The owner’s cellphone was found inside the vehicle.
The four occupants of the vehicle, aged 30 to 35, were arrested for vehicle theft and the possession of suspected stolen property.
Thakeng said the possibility that they could be linked to the murder and robbery of the vehicle owner in Cullinan would be investigated. – Sapa
