The public have been warned to beware of people posing as police officers, Free State police said on Thursday.
Captain Galeboe Maloka said bogus cops would phone the parents of suspects in police custody and inform them money was needed for bail, or a fine.
“Four cases were recently reported whereby parents have deposited money into the bogus cops' accounts, ranging between R350 and R3 000. Bail and fines are not paid into anyone's personal account, but at the police station or magistrates' court.”
Maloka said no arrests had been made yet. – Sapa
