Bloemfontein - Police in the Free State on Monday arrested a 21-year-old pupil from HaRankopane village after he allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old female pupil 14 times with a knife on the school grounds.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the 21-year-old pupil from Moteka High School allegedly stabbed the girl after argument. The girl was admitted to a local hospital while police arrested the suspect on the school premises.
According to Mophiring: “It is alleged that on 15 February 2016 at approximately 07:45 the learner got into an argument with the girl whom it is believed he was in love with.
“It is not yet known what was their argument was about but he took out a knife and started stabbing her several times on the body in full view of other learners and teachers. The police were summoned to the scene and the suspect was arrested, whilst the girl was rushed to Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital for further treatment.”
A case of attempted murder was being investigated and the suspect was expected to appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face a charge of attempted murder.
The condition of the girl was not known.
