Durban – Two three-year old girls were killed when the bus in which they were travelling caught alight on the N3 between Harrismith and Warden in the Free State on Friday.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said that the charred bodies of the two toddlers, who were twins, were found in the wreckage after emergency services extinguished the blaze.
The bus driver and one of the children were critically injured while another four were described as being in a serious condition. Another 17 children sustained minor injuries.
The bus was completely gutted. The fire department, paramedics and members of the South African police were on the scene.
Botha said the accident happened about 15 kilometres from Warden and the injured were taken to hospital in Harrismith.
